17 down... 4 to go

On Monday we had 17 trees cut down!! That's a LOT of lumber. Of course the trees were all fairly healthy with not much rot at all, but they were tall. Some as high as 98 feet! And if one of those babies fell during a storm, all of the house renovations would be detroyed.
Plus this way we get a lot more sunlight which is great.
Here are some before and after pictures.
No more tree in front of the house or between the shed and the garage
(shed will eventually be removed ;)
The house does look a bit small as you come up the driveway now, but I think the porch and deck will help frame it a little better.
And getting rid of the ghastly blue will be a big improvement too!
Along the right side of the house (when driving up the driveway)

Notice, in the before shot, the two trees on the left (these were the 98 footers) and they formed sort of the middle of the circle you could drive around.
They're both gone. In the "after" shots, the stump grinder is grinding up what's left of them.
Driving up to the house and garage this is what you now see. So much more light (though the pictures aren't great, sorry).
And the view from the front door looking out. With a little landscaping, the front lawn will extend out to the garage since with the trees gone from the middle, we can move the circle over further.
The stack of lumber.
Our good friend David is going to put it to good use building an addition or putting in new floors.
The Gorgeously Green Girl in me is very happy to know that these trees won't have been cut down completely in vein!

There are a few more photos if you want to see more.
