hi kids.
its been awhile. i'm enjoying my vacation but that hasn't included much computer time. too many other fun things going on. and to that end, here's a quick update.
friday dan and i drove up to tenant's harbor maine for the weekend. we stayed in a very "camp"-like cabin owned by dan's uncle donnie. we visited with marilyn and some other family and enjoyed the fresh maine air (and the local lobster--- of which I did not partake). ....more on that trip in another post.
sunday we drove home. cleaned the whole house top to bottom. then watched far too many episodes of Rescue Me on DVD. as much as it is all consuming and we seem to lose hours upon hours in the blackhole that is Denis Leary's show- dan and i are still extremely grateful for these shows, on loan from matt & krissy. thanks again.
monday i got up around 7:30am, walked 10 miles. showered and headed to krissy's. we ate lunch together and i dropped off milk for willy who had been sick with an almost 104 temp since we got home from maine and had spent the early morning the Emergency Room at Children's Hospital. the afternoon was spent cooling off in the pool with gram, then playing a round of Phase 10. Mom and Dad came home, then Kris and Aila came over and we all enjoyed dinner together.
tuesday i slept in. why? because monday ended on a sour note. major migraine. almost puked. shaking, sweating. it was bad. got up around 8am when some random dude came over to pick up yet more scrap metal from this here compound. nothing like answering the door in your robe, post migraine and still shaking....... what he must have thought! ran errands most of the day, christmas tree shop, lowes, the hanover mall, grocery shopping. then my pampered chef party at night. we had a ball! again, it deserves its own post, complete with pictures so i'll share more later.
ednesday. today. the week is half over. what the heck!?
got up at 10am!!! couldn't fall asleep last night so I finally watched Brokeback Mountain. went for a 5 mile walk this morning then ditched the idea of going shopping for sneakers and some other things I need, in favor of blogging some more recipes and just relaxing with ina garten keeping me company in the background. in the afternoon i picked up my farm share (best week yet!!!!!!!!!!) and made my weekly pilgrimage to the library.
tonight i went to dinner and a movie with mom, terri, kris and megg. we went to The Four's (which is in the building that Friday's used to occupy in Norwell). dinner was good but the service wasn't great. not a good veggie selection, but i knew that going in. we saw Julie and Julia at Hanover cinema. i wasn't sure if i'd like it, but it was very cute. very classic Nora Ephron. there were many similarities between this and Sleepless & Seattle and You've Got Mail. Amy Adams even reminds me of a young Meg Ryan. ever since Enchanted i've been in love with Amy Adams anyways but this parallel makes me even more fond of her.
and yet again going to the movies, which i don't do as much anymore, reminds me just how much i LOVE going to the movies. especially a good movie, just gets me completely wrapped up. i totally enter the world of the movie and i leave feeling refreshed.
of course this movie particularly spoke to me. its a movie about a girl who decides to cook all of the recipes from Julia Child's cookbook in 1 year, and blog about it. so as a blogger, who recently started a blog to chronicle my new journey into cooking, it was totally entertaining. particularly funny was a scene where Julie & her husband got into a fight and her husband said "don't you blog about this!!!" hmmm have I heard that before? i can't remember ;)
it did inspire me to expand my recipe blog a bit. i am most definitely still a very green novice at cooking. but that said, in learning as much as i can, i'm using more than just recipes. so if i can get my act together i'm going to also post cooking tips and things i've learned about cookware etc in case it can help anyone else who chooses to peek in there.
so that's a glimpse at vacation.
its now thursday morning- my old laptop is getting tired in its "old" age and it crapped out last night... but now i'm at Quirk getting my oil changed and scheduled maintenance performed and am checking in from here. its rainy and kinda cool. not sure what today will bring. probably some shopping, maybe some crafting, maybe a class at the gym with megg. but definitely a massage at 3p so that's something to look forward to.
have a good day!
