i'm home and doing well.
thanks for all the comments, calls, emails and texts :)
yesterday went very smoothly. i went down to same day surgery at 6:45
and got called in shortly thereafter.
changed into comfy scrubs
answered a battery of questions
chatted with the nurses and read my book
found out early, however, that it was a 2 part procedure
not just the surgery
i had to go back to the Avon Breast Center around 8:30
they performed another ultrasound to make sure things were still the same
then they gave me some local anesthesia
so they could insert a wire into the mass
i'm sure it sounds disgusting... and while it wasn't all that pleasant
it wasn't all that bad either.
went back to same day surgery for awhile.
took a nap.
then i chatted with the nurses some more
once they found out where i worked
they were keen to tell me all sorts of things
that they think need to be improved
that's one of the things i just love about MGH
we're certainly not perfect
but all the time i meet people who are
very interested in making the experience better for the patients
and that's what its all about.
very refreshing (especially when you're on the
receiving end of that great care)
around 11:30 they took me in for surgery
its only took about 20 minutes once i was actually in there and settled.
they used a couple shots of local anesthesia
and a little general anesthesia
i wasn't competely out cold
but i was loopy.
i could still feel some pain but it wasn't unbearable.
shortly thereafter they wheeled me into the recovery room
my doctor came out with me.
she said they couldn't tell much just from looking at it
but she'll call me with the results as soon as she has them.
usually 5-7 business days.
dan meanwhile was waiting for me out in the lobby.
i think they called him as soon as i was done with surgery
and he came right over
but i was still sleeping off the anesthesia for another 45 min or so.
--- my dad had also come over earlier
hoping to help me kill time between the two procedures
but somehow i missed him :(
we left around 2p
went to CVS for pain meds that were prescribed
and got home around 3p.
dan made me a grilled cheese
and we settled in to watch movies together.
around 6:30 mom and dad came to check on me
and bring some soup for dinner.
dan and i watched some other movies
and finally headed to bed around 9:30p
(dan finding a make-shift step stool so i could get into bed more easily)
i slept pretty well
though i hadn't thought that sleeping only on my back
would get old so quickly.
around 3am i took some more pain meds and dan helped me
get into a new position and that worked.
we slept until 9am! :)
got up and had some peanut butter toast and fruit for breakfast.
then dad headed to visit marilyn
(she's being discharged tomorrow and heading up to Maine to stay
with her sister Joanne and her husband Steve
for the summer, thanks to some kick-ass short term disability leave)
i took a nice long nap
then got up and dan made me another grilled cheese for lunch.
mmmmmmm. he's no Bubba, but who knew the man could make
such a yummy grilled cheese?!
he swears that my use of wheat bread bastardizes the whole idea
of the sandwich. but i think it tastes like heaven!
so i'm doing ok.
when i'm sitting down i'm really not in any pain at all
moving around is a little tougher,
but still not as bad as i expected.
i was even able to get up and grab my camera (albeit slowly)
when our neighborhood doe
was eating from the tall grasses by the woodpile in the backyard!!
thankfully she was in no rush
because i couldn't rush!
and i got some cool shots of her.
i'll post them later on :)
so that's been the excitement for today.
other than that, just reading and relaxing.

ETA: our doe
tomorrow krissy is going to bring willy and aila for a visit
and bring some lunch for us
and gram's going to come too
(which will actually work out better than i even thought
because i think dan will need to drive marilyn to maine tomorrow)
then hopefully back to work on friday depending on how things go.
so that's my scoop.
hanging in there :)
